After thousands of attempts, Thomas Edison perfected his incandescent light bulb.

But Edison’s bulb was just the beginning. To make light useful and scalable, he needed an entire electrification system—generators, power stations, meters, and distribution lines. So, he named Mr. Spencer Trask President of the world’s first electric power company, now Con Edison.

Together, Trask and Edison built the first electric grid, igniting the age of electrification and establishing the modern era
